The Tiger's Mouth Blog: Profound Stillness
In the afternoons I often go out to a large grassy field where I have room to do sets and long uninterrupted rows of a move. However the mainstay of my individual practice is dan yus and tor yus each morning in my tiny kitchen where I can use the lines on the floor to line up my feet as I explore my balance and listen to what I need to do to make it a practice of stillness.

I have been feeling deeply disturbed by recent events and have been constantly turning to my Taoist Tai Chi® practice to find my feet, to feel grounded and to feel balanced. Through the practice I experience a feeling of settling, calmness and stillness.

When I pay attention to my feet and my upper body alignment I feel grounded and can access better balance and stillness. I am learning that rather than use muscle I can let go of all that if I am balanced and grounded — it is very freeing. I am experiencing mental stillness and feeling rather than thinking about what I am doing. I have been practising Taoist Tai Chi® arts for over 25 years and it is only now that I am finding balance and stillness: this experience is profound.
