The Tiger's Mouth Blog: Chinese New Year Celebration in Edmonton
It was time to celebrate New Year of the Earth Pig. A year of projected prosperity and friendship. After weeks of planning – invitations to dignitaries, posters and tickets designed, printed, tracked, restaurants considered, drafts of planning lists and task-sharing, program and speeches prepared, Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism, Edmonton Branch leadership arrived early at Jumbo Dim Sum. Sound equipment and podium, table centre pieces, brochures, menu cards, “lucky money” and door prizes added final touches.
Ready to greet guests, tickets to be taken, seating to be ushered. A sumptuous 10-course banquet was enjoyed with tai chi friends, family guests and our dignitary guest, Andrew Knack , City Councillor, Ward 1.
All this thanks to a continuous training and instruction given so many years ago by our founder Master Moy Lin Shin. Balance. Timing. Work together. Practice together.
Mr. Knack was very interested in hearing from his table host, Frazer Smith, Western Region President, about Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism’s projects and about Master Moy’s wishes to help people in all stages of life, and even after death. The Institute’s board is again reflecting on how they can carry out a long-term care opportunity to help people at the end of their life.
Mr Knack thanked all present for being part of the charitable practice of these life-enhancing arts, not just in Edmonton, but across Canada and around the world.
The evening concluded with a health testimonial and a “To Your Health in the New Year” toast by the Western Region Management Committee and the Branch Council.
Thanks to all who volunteered to make a pleasurable evening!
